Introducing the London location of the new Microsoft AI Hub
Microsoft recently revealed the establishment of Microsoft AI, a brand-new company dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research.
Adding to that announcement, I'm happy to announce that Microsoft AI is establishing a new AI hub in the center of London.
Microsoft AI London will lead groundbreaking efforts to develop cutting-edge language models and the infrastructure that supports them, as well as to produce cutting-edge tooling for foundation models.
It will achieve this by closely working with our AI teams throughout Microsoft and with our partners, such as OpenAI.
Outstanding AI scientist and engineer Jordan Hoffmann will serve as the head of the new AI cluster. Hoffmann made a name for himself as an AI pioneer at London-based Inflection and DeepMind before joining Microsoft AI.
A bright set of Microsoft AI team members based in our London Paddington office will be joining Hoffmann.
The United Kingdom has a vast reservoir of AI talent and experience, and Microsoft AI intends to invest heavily and sustainably in the area as we start appointing the top AI scientists and engineers to staff this new AI hub.
We will be advertising job positions and actively seeking outstanding candidates that are eager to work on the most fascinating and difficult AI problems of our day in the upcoming weeks and months. We are seeking new members of the team who are enthusiastic innovators who are driven by impact at scale and who are ready to contribute to a culture of continuous learning within the team.
This is excellent news for the United Kingdom and Microsoft AI. Being a native Londoner and a British citizen, I'm honored to have co-founded and developed a state-of-the-art AI company here. Being well aware of the exceptional talent pool and AI ecosystem in the United Kingdom, I'm thrilled to be representing Microsoft AI in the U.K. I am aware that the United Kingdom is dedicated to developing artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and with a safety-first commitment to spur investment, creativity, and economic growth because of my strong collaboration with thought leaders in the nation's business community, government, and academia. This goal is reflected in our choice to establish this hub in the United Kingdom.
The Microsoft Research Cambridge lab, which is home to some of the top researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and productivity, is strengthened by the opening of the Microsoft AI London center.
Simultaneously, it expands upon Microsoft's recently declared £2.5 billion investment aimed at equipping the British workforce with AI skills and developing the necessary infrastructure to support the AI economy.
This includes our pledge to introduce 20,000 of the most cutting-edge GPUs to the nation by 2026.
As we continue to push the limits of artificial intelligence and bring its benefits to every individual and company in the United Kingdom, stay tuned for future developments.
